WILDLIFE AND LANDSCAPE ARTIST

ARDNAMURCHAN SCOTLAND 2004
Scotland was a fantastic experience, with fellow artist David Cowdry , we had planed to travel allot of the west coast, We brought our sea kayaks along with the intention of spending as much time as possible out on the water, being November we had looked at doing some camping, for the first few days this proved fine but we soon realized that , having all this kit with us , it was going to take quiet some time to break and move camp, whilst visiting Strontian to pick up supplies we visited a log cabin complex on the shores of Loch Sunart, and being a quiet time of year we struck a deal with the owner to use the facilities as a base , He tempted us with the fact that they have Pine Martin out side the cabins this proved irresistible for us.
I tend to spend allot of time gathering reference photographs for my work, which are cataloged and stored on disc to be used at a later date, sketch books also play an important part in the process in planing compositions and quick spontaneous notes all go together to produce the final piece, Although I do admit that I am not the best at sketching so far as to say that they are adequate for the purpose.

Kayaking on the Cleddau Estuary, Pembrokeshire
|
The Cleddau Estuary in west wales provides a fantastic opportunity to get close to wildlife, It is a well navigated river and has many put in and pull out places along it's route,
We have friends who live at Lawrenny and so we normally put in there, paddling north you have a choice of either the east or west branches of the river to explore, and if you time the tides right makes easy paddling.

NORTH PEMBROKESHIRE COAST
Second week of June 2006 I spent a few day's on the North Pembs Coast, getting Sea bird reference for future paintings,
The coast here is quite different from South Pembs with a much more rugged geography with a lot less put in and pull out places , but is incredibly beautiful as you can see from the shots David Cowdry took during the day.
Exploring the caves and getting close in to the rocks adds to the enjoyment of the day.
